Certified Veterinary Technician (Chemotherapy)
At Veterinary Cancer & Surgery Specialists, the Certified Veterinary Technician’s role on the Oncology team has a primary emphasis on day-to-day patient care, sedation, and workflows while maintaining high-quality standards of care. As a Veterinary Technician at VCSS, you will be utilized in the full scope of your ability to practice and are integral to daily success. The CVT at Veterinary Cancer & Surgery Specialists (VCSS) communicates, facilitates, and advocates for their pet families and patients. The Certified Veterinary Technician’s role supports VCSS’ mission to improve the veterinary landscape through a transformative approach to team health and happiness. At VCSS you will participate in a collaborative environment for your teammates, patients, and pet families by utilizing resources and support provided by the administration. The VCSS Veterinary Technician provides team and patient care that exceeds industry standards.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5 years of practicing CVT experience
  • Graduate of an accredited veterinary technology program
  • Veterinary technician license “in good standing” so applicant is or eligible to transfer license to Oregon
  • Able to lift up to 25 lbs. without assistance
  • Experience in specialty veterinary medicine is strongly preferred
  • Experience with high-level medical math such as calculating analgesic constant rate infusions
  • Dedication to high standard patient care practices
  • Adaptability in various learning strategies and keen interest to continue to develop as a technician and team member
  • Comfort monitoring and troubleshooting anesthesia

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational skills to help plan, prioritize and collaborate effectively
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including active listening, dependability, patience, and flexibility
  • Strong communication skills to enable respectful and successful lines of communication among team members
  • Knowledge of veterinary workflows and procedures
  • Ability to express oneself clearly both verbally and in writing
  • Exposure to, or certification in Fear-Free handling techniques and philosophies
  • Substantial veterinary pharmacology knowledge
  • Previous work in an Oncology department and administering oral and intravenous chemotherapy agents
  • Knowledge of proper PPE usage in the Chemotherapy room
  • Knowledge of operation of phaseal injection system
  • Knowledge of safe handling practices and use of the Waste Hood

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with and or administer chemotherapy agents
  • Assist with and monitor anesthesia for ECT procedures
  • Maintain professionalism and treat all team members throughout the organization, as well as pet families with respect and kindness.
  • Participate in admitting and discharging a diverse patient population while maintaining patient and personal safety
  • Examine and document vital signs and patient needs
  • Employ Fear-Free techniques in all aspects of patient handling to reduce stress and injury
  • Display fluency in emergency, anesthetic, and common veterinary pharmacology
  • Recognize, treat, and prevent drug complications with support of lead technician and doctors
  • Recognize, treat, and prevent and communicate patient care concerns in hospitalized patients
  • Exercise ease in understanding and documenting patient care trends with appropriate interventions
  • Flexibility in communication styles to effectively deliver patient updates or discharge instructions to pet families
  • Uphold and maintain the highest standards in all aspects of team, patient, and client care
  • Recognition that your voice is needed to speak for the needs of your patient
  • Communicate self-care needs to reduce stressors and ensure engagement
  • Participate in a minimum of 8 hours per year of relevant continuing education paid by VCSS
  • Share your knowledge and help others grow and learn.

Certified Veterinary Technician Surgery

Veterinary Cancer & Surgery Specialists (VCSS) is a locally owned, small animal specialty practice in Milwaukie, Oregon. We are looking for a full-time certified veterinary technician to join our team. At Veterinary Cancer & Surgery Specialists, a Certified Veterinary Technician’s role on the surgery team has a primary emphasis on day-to-day patient care and/or managing surgical instrumentation, while maintaining high-quality standards of care. As a Veterinary Technician at VCSS, you will be utilized in the full scope of your ability to practice and are an integral to daily success. You will participate in a collaborative environment for your teammates, patients, and pet families by utilizing resources and support provided by the administration. The VCSS Veterinary Technician provides team and patient care that exceeds industry standards.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 3 years of practicing CVT experience
  • Familiarity with basic orthopedic procedures (TPLO, fracture repair, FHO)
  • Experience running advanced anesthesia cases with patients ASA 3 or higher.
  • Experience with ventilator, syringe pump and running CRIs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including active listening, dependability, patience, and flexibility
  • Strong communication skills to enable respectful and successful lines of communication among team members, clients and referring clinic teams.
  • Graduate of an accredited veterinary technology program
  • Oregon Veterinary technician license “in good standing” or ability to transfer license to Oregon within 60 days of hire.
  • Able to lift up to 25 lbs. without assistance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 or more years of experience working in a Specialty Veterinary Hospital
  • Familiarity with advanced imaging techniques
  • Experience scrubbing in as a surgical nurse
  • Experience processing sterile instruments
  • Experience with gas and steam sterilization techniques
  • Exposure to, or certification in Fear-Free animal handling techniques and philosophies
  • Adaptability in various learning strategies and keen interest in continuing to develop as a technician and team member
  • Strong organizational skills to help plan, prioritize, and collaborate effectively
